A groundbreaking Ensono poll has highlighted a significant change in the IT sector’s work culture. The poll shows how hybrid work models are creating more inclusive and fair opportunities for women.

The poll, which involved 1,500 full-time female professionals from several countries, including India, reveals the significant impact that flexible work arrangements may have in the technology industry.

Let’s examine the results and consider the implications for women in technology going forward.

Hybrid work: A gateway to greater opportunities

According to a survey conducted by technology advisory company Ensono, 80% of women believe that remote work has provided greater job opportunities. This figure highlights the evolving nature of the IT sector and indicates that adopting flexible models is a deliberate step towards promoting inclusiveness and diversity, rather than just a passing trend.

According to 93% of respondents, hybrid work settings have promoted fairness and inclusion in addition to offering a wealth of learning possibilities. This indicates a hopeful trend in the survey data. This demonstrates unequivocally that organizations that provide flexibility foster a more varied and dynamic workforce.

    Balancing acts and professional bonds

A remarkable 97% of women questioned believe that hybrid or in-person positions are essential to improving the quality of their interactions with coworkers as well as work-life balance. This data emphasizes how crucial in-person encounters are to developing robust professional networks, especially in a society where digital devices are the norm.

Challenges on the path to equity

Despite the positive strides, the journey towards gender equity in tech is marred with obstacles:

    • Unequal burdens: Post-workforce reductions in 2023, 73% of women feel the weight of additional responsibilities more than their male counterparts, spotlighting the need for fair workload distribution.
    • The safety quotient: The survey reveals a worrying trend, with 26% of hybrid and in-person workers experiencing discomfort or unsafe conditions due to discrimination, up from 20% the previous year.
    • The caregiving conundrum: Particularly for respondents from India, 62% find it challenging to juggle caregiving duties with in-person work commitments, highlighting a crucial area for workplace policy innovation.

    Forward-looking insights and actions

Ensono’s survey doesn’t just diagnose issues but also points towards promising developments and necessary actions:

    • Generative AI as a career catalyst: The emergence of generative AI technologies presents new career avenues, with over a third of respondents noting that women are leading the charge in this domain. In India, a striking 89% of women benefit from female mentorship in navigating the AI landscape.
    • The voice and flexibility equation: There’s a definite demand for greater flexibility and significant involvement in decision-making, as seen by the 19% of women who plan to change jobs in the near future.
    • Getting in touch with Generation Z: It’s important to comprehend the goals and desires of Generation Z, who will soon make up the majority of the workforce. The next generation’s changing expectations are highlighted by their demand for employment that provide social contact and a larger voice in decision-making.

Ensono’s Chief People Officer, Meredith Graham, sums up the attitude by pleading on business executives to fund initiatives that promote women’s career advancement while also taking into account their personal lives. Flexibility, inclusion, and a thorough awareness of the particular needs and goals of women in technology are keystones on the road to keeping and promoting women in the field.

    Conclusion

As we look towards the future, it’s clear that hybrid work models are more than just a temporary adjustment; they are a cornerstone in building a more inclusive, equitable, and dynamic tech industry. The insights from Ensono’s survey serve as a roadmap for organizations aiming to cultivate a workplace where women not only thrive but also lead the way in innovation and growth.
