EPHRAIM – Snow College has been awarded the prestigious and competitive IDEAS grant, administered by the United States Department of State. As one of only 37 U.S. colleges and universities to receive this honor, Snow College is set to broaden its students’ horizons with a focus on international entrepreneurship. The $35,000 grant will enable Snow College business students to engage in a unique study abroad program in Tunisia, Northern Africa.

The IDEAS (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students) grant aims to establish, expand, and/or broaden American student mobility overseas, aligning with U.S. foreign policy goals. Snow College’s winning proposal centers on rural entrepreneurship, bridging the small town of Ephraim with Tunisia’s entrepreneurial landscape. This initiative is designed to give students practical insights into global business practices, particularly in rural settings.

    Program details and objectives

The $35,000 grant will fund a short-term program where Snow College business students will travel to Tunisia. The curriculum includes field research, networking events, collaborative workshops, partnership development, reflective sessions, and a capstone project. The program will be supported by faculty from Snow College and their counterparts at Uniglobal, an organization known for its expertise in global exchange and entrepreneurial training.

Alex Peterson, director of Global Learning at Snow College, expressed his enthusiasm about the grant’s impact. “We have an incredible international student program at Snow College, with students from 53 countries. These students bring unique perspectives and cultures and learn with our local Utah students. We’re working on ways to provide more opportunities for local students to travel and learn in other countries. This project will help business students learn about entrepreneurship and ways to make a living in a rural setting by using global connections while they learn about Tunisia.”

    National support and importance

Heidi Manley, chief of USA Study Abroad, underscored the significance of such grants. “The U.S. Department of State is proud to support these U.S. colleges and universities as they build capacity for more American students to study abroad in diverse locations around the world. Increasing the number of U.S. students with international experiences is part of our investment in ensuring that our country’s future leaders have the skills they need in fields ranging from global health to technology and innovation.”

The IDEAS grant reflects a broader commitment to equipping American students with global competencies essential for leadership in various fields. By fostering international experiences, the grant contributes to the development of skills crucial for addressing global challenges.

    Snow College’s legacy and commitment

Founded in 1888 by Utah pioneers, Snow College has a long-standing tradition of providing quality education. With campuses in Ephraim and Richfield and a learning center in Nephi, the college serves over 5,000 students. Snow College is dedicated to helping students graduate debt-free, gain valuable experience, and develop future career plans. The institution’s affordable tuition and personalized learning environment enable students to discover their potential and prepare for successful futures.
