Wondering what it’s like to study abroad for a semester in Budapest? Picture this: It’s morning and you pass by the famous Great Market Hall, already buzzing with energy. You’re welcomed by a symphony of smells; fresh produce and Hungary’s beloved paprika mix with the aroma of freshly baked pastries and coffee brewing in nearby cafés. Before you know it, you’ve reached your destination – your class, located in a beautiful building on the banks of the Danube River.

Here’s more about what it’s like to study abroad in Budapest with AIFS during the fall or spring semester:

    Academics in Budapest

Earn up to 15 semester credits studying abroad in Budapest. You can choose to take any course offered by Corvinus University of Budapest (if prerequisites are met). Courses are taught in English, aside from courses on Hungarian language. Hungarian language is not mandatory but is recommended to help you get the most out of their time in Budapest.

    Life in Budapest: On Campus

Budapest is split into Buda on the western bank of the Danube, with its castle, royal palace and historic old town and Pest on the eastern bank, which is the city’s commercial and political heart. The gorgeous and imposing buildings of Corvinus University are perched on the Pest side of the riverbanks.

Housing is included in your program fee. While studying abroad in Budapest, you’ll live in a double room in a private student residence hall near Corvinus University. Your student apartment features a shared kitchen, bathroom and living area and Internet access.

    Excursions and Cultural Activities

Deepen your understanding of Hungarian culture beyond Budapest on a day trip to Szentendre. This artsy Hungarian town features colorful houses, narrow winding streets, and a Baroque city center. You’ll also take a weekend trip to Hungary’s Lake Balaton region, where you can enjoy a sightseeing tour, wine tasting, and opportunities to bike ride and hike.

You’ll also have the chance to explore beyond Hungary while you’re abroad. Your AIFS program fee includes a 3-day excursion to Vienna, Austria. This trip features guided sightseeing tours of the heart of Vienna, including the Hofburg Palace and Stephansplatz, as well as free time to explore the city on your own.

Your program fee also includes a variety of cultural and social activities. Typical activities can include:

    • Walking tour of the Buda Castle area and Budapest Jewish District
    • Culinary tour of the Budapest Food Market
    • Boat trip along the Danube
    • Visit to Budapest Christmas Market
    • Ottoman Heritage Tour
    • Music concerts and ballet and contemporary dance performances
    • Explore Roman Budapest

📣 “I loved my program in Budapest and my AIFS director really cared about the students and made my time in Hungary all the better. AIFS made the paperwork and logistics of going to Budapest easy and took away a lot of the stress of going abroad. The excursions were well planned and well worth the money! I made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.” – Emily J., AIFS Abroad in Budapest alum.

📣 “I would recommend this program a million times over, get out of your comfort zone and live in the heart of Europe for a couple of months. I saw a lot of Hungary through AIFS, but also traveled to 12 other countries on the weekends.” – Charles, AIFS Abroad in Budapest alum.
