You probably already know that Ireland’s lush green hills and dramatic seaside cliffs make the country a popular tourist destination. But what makes interning or studying abroad in Dublin an experience you can’t miss? With its world-class universities, friendly locals, and endless entertainment, Dublin has something for everyone. Plus, as the economic and cultural center of Ireland, this capital city is an ideal place to learn about Irish culture and history.

Let’s go over the top reasons why you’ll love studying abroad in Dublin:

    1. Immerse yourself in another culture without (too much) of a language barrier.

Although there are still pockets of Dubliners that speak the Irish language (also known as Gaeilge or Irish Gaelic), the vast majority of residents speak English. That being said, you can expect to find some differences in Irish English versus American English.

    2. Dublin is one of the literary capitals of the world.

Walk in the footsteps of legendary wordsmiths like Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, and James Joyce when you study abroad in Dublin. Don’t miss visiting the Dublin Writer’s Museum, where you can be inspired by the great playwrights, poets, and novelists that have called this city home.

    3. It’s the perfect size.

With an area of less than 45 square miles, Dublin is a diverse global city with a friendly, small town feel. It’s also very walkable, so you’ll have no trouble exploring your host city. Do you have mobility limitations or concerns? Great news — most of the city center is flat and Dublin has a relatively accessible public transport system.

    4. Day trips and weekend trips are a breeze.

Dublin’s convenient location makes it easy to explore the rest of Ireland. The Irish countryside, quaint seaside towns, and the famous Cliffs of Moher are just a bus ride away from the capital city and perfect for day trips.

Psst! Be sure to take advantage of the range of excursions AIFS offers students studying abroad in Dublin.

    5. It’s super green.

As the capital city of the Emerald Isle, it should come as no surprise that over 25% of Dublin is made up of public parks and gardens. Phoenix Park is one of the largest urban parks in Europe and home to the official residence of the President of Ireland, Dublin Zoo, and a herd of wild fallow deer.

    6. Irish culture is very welcoming.

The Irish are well-known for their hospitality. Known as the ‘land of a hundred thousand welcomes,’ Ireland embraces its visitors from around the globe. Dublin is overall a very welcoming city for students from diverse backgrounds and social identities.

    7. It’s one of Europe’s most youthful cities.

Looking for study abroad destination with lots of entertainment and nightlife options? Check out Dublin! With roughly half its population younger than age 25, this Irish city is bursting with energy and creativity.

    8. There’s a vibrant food scene.

Calling all foodies! Where better to experience Ireland’s “culinary renaissance” than its capital city? From cozy pubs serving classic Irish dishes to trendy vegan bistros, Dublin offers a range of cuisines from all over the world.

    9. You can enjoy cultural events year-round.

No matter when you study abroad, you’re sure to find plenty of festivals and parades in Dublin. Some of the most popular events in the city include St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Pride parades, and the Dublin International Film Festival.

    10. It’s great for sports enthusiasts.

If sports and fitness are important to you, Dublin is terrific study abroad destination. From sporting events to recreation facilities, this city has it all. Students studying abroad in Dublin during the spring or fall semester have access to a wide range of sports facilities at Dublin City University, including a 25-meter swimming pool and high performance gym.

… Did we mention you have amazing program options for studying abroad in Dublin with AIFS?

Whether you’re interested in studying abroad in Dublin for a semester or during winter break, AIFS has a program option for you. We even offer internship opportunities so you can enhance your résumé while in Ireland.
