Navigating U.S. immigration law to secure a TN work permit can be a daunting process. We’re excited to share a success story from Berardi Immigration Law, showcasing how careful preparation and understanding of immigration requirements can lead to positive outcomes. This story features a Canadian accountant who successfully obtained TN status, highlighting key steps and insights for professionals with similar aspirations.

Securing the Job and Aligning with TN Requirements

Our client, a Canadian national, received a job offer from a U.S. company for an accounting position. This role represented a significant step forward in their career, and obtaining a TN work permit was crucial to making this transition possible. One of the initial steps we took was to ensure that the job duties matched those listed for the accountant occupation in the Occupational Outlook Handbook, a critical element of every TN application. It was a perfect fit.

    Highlighting Education & Professional Experience

Our next step was to ensure that the client met the minimum requirements for the role according to TN regulations. For accountants, an applicant must possess one of the following: a Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree, or a certification as a C.P.A., C.A., C.G.A., or C.M.A. Our client was well-qualified, holding both a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in finance, and having completed several courses directly related to accounting. This strong educational and professional background was crucial in fulfilling the TN requirements.

The Application Process & Achieving TN Status

With a solid application that showcased our client’s qualifications and the job’s adherence to TN requirements, he applied for TN status at the Peace Bridge port of entry in Buffalo, NY. This direct approach enabled an immediate review and decision on the application. The application process proceeded smoothly, and our client was granted TN status for three years.

    Lessons Learned

This story offers valuable lessons for individuals seeking TN status:

    • Ensure Job Offer Alignment: It’s important to make sure that your job offer and your duties meet the specific criteria set out for one of the many eligible TN occupations.
    • Showcase Relevant Qualifications: Possessing the necessary educational background and professional experience are key to meeting TN requirements.
    • Be Prepared for the Application Process: Understanding the application process and preparing thoroughly can make a significant difference in the outcome.

At Berardi Immigration Law, our goal is to help our clients navigate the complexities of U.S. immigration law. This story is just one example of how proper preparation and expertise can lead to achieving professional goals across borders.

If you’re considering applying for TN status or have questions about the U.S. immigration process, we’re here to offer guidance and support.
