For Indian students who want to study abroad, there are various paths available, such as Dual Degrees, Joint Degrees, Credit Transfers, and Integrated Masters, each designed for specific goals. These choices make global education accessible and affordable.

To have a smooth higher education experience that fulfils your expectations, however, you need to consider a few factors to determine which route would be the best fit for you.

How can you make an informed decision? Shrenik Parmar, Founder and CEO of DegreeLabs Limited, shared a few tips.

TYPES OF PROGRAMMES FOR STUDYING ABROAD

A Dual Degree offers two degrees from Indian and foreign institutions after completing a single programme. This is ideal for students aiming for diverse qualifications.

A Joint Degree is a collaborative effort between institutions resulting in one degree, reflecting international standards and acknowledgments.

Credit Transfer programmes allow students to begin their education in India and transfer their credits to a foreign institution to graduate with an international degree. It’s a flexible choice for those seeking global exposure.

Integrated Masters merge undergraduate and graduate studies, condensing the academic journey while cutting costs significantly. Students obtain an undergraduate degree from India and a postgraduate degree from abroad.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PROGRAMME TYPE

Here are the factors you need to consider to choose the right kind of programme type to study abroad:

    1. Academic and career aspirations are the foremost factors to consider before making a decision. It is essential to consider your long-term career goals and match your choice with your career trajectory.
You must consider your long-term aspirations and how the chosen program can contribute to your professional growth. Furthermore, you need to ask if it does offer specialised knowledge or qualifications that will set you apart in your field.

    2. Financial feasibility: Education can be a significant investment, so it’s essential to explore financial options. It’s crucial to evaluate tuition fees, living costs, and potential financial aid or scholarships to ensure that the chosen programme is financially feasible for you.

    3. Cultural experience: Transnational education often involves studying in a foreign country with a different culture. Consider how the programme aligns with your lifestyle preferences and cultural experiences.

It’s important to reflect on factors like language, lifestyle, and social dynamics to choose a programme that offers a cultural experience that suits your personal preferences.

    4. Recognition and accreditation: The recognition of your degree is crucial. You need to ensure that the program and institution you choose are accredited and globally recognised.

Furthermore, it’s crucial to investigate the institution’s standing and the programme’s history in producing accomplished alumni.

    5. Program flexibility: Every student’s academic goals are unique. You should seek out programmes that offer flexibility in terms of curriculum and course selection, allowing you to tailor your education to your specific needs.

It can provide you with the opportunity to explore your interests and adapt your education to your academic and career objectives.
