After almost 10 years at the helm of a successful Columbus brewery, Craig O’Herron has decided it’s time to “move on to something new.”
O’Herron, owner of Sideswipe Brewing, announced on Friday that the taproom located at 2415 Scioto Harper Drive has been sold to Jason Wing, a local brewer O’Herron said he’s known for many years as both a fellow craft beer enthusiast and a frequent Sideswipe patron.
“Even though the business has been doing very well, after nearly a decade of running it, I am ready to move on to something new. I’m going to focus on some down time and possibly a few vacations I’ve missed over the years but after that, I will reevaluate things and decide where to go from there,” O’Herron said.
“We are excited to see where (Wing) takes our beloved location with his exciting new concept.”
O’Herron, who sharpened his home-brewing skills while studying abroad and teaching English in Thailand and South Korea, began laying the groundwork for his dream in 2011 after returning to the States. Two years later, his plans came to fruition. Then in 2019, Sideswipe teamed up with Arcade Super Awesome to add about 40 arcade and pinball machines.

Sideswipe is one of 35 breweries in Franklin County participating in the Columbus Ale Trail, which launches on Saturday. In addition, a going-away party is set for July 22 at the taproom, which will remain open under O’Herron’s ownership through July 30.
It’s a bittersweet departure for O’Herron, who expressed gratitude for the support and patronage Sideswipe has received since opening in October 2013.

“We have loved brewing for this great city and all the fun our taproom has created for us and so many of you. Thank you, Columbus, for being a great city filled with craft beer enthusiasts and a strong collaborative brewing community,” he said in a press statement.
“Without your support, my dreams of owning a craft brewery would never have become a reality.”
