If higher Visa rates, increased application fees and exorbitantly high tuition fees were not enough to discourage Indian students from studying abroad, there’s one more thing making a dent in the pockets of these students. As the holiday season approaches, flight tickets are reaching record high prices for destinations like the US and Canada. As this coincides with the fall intake of universities, students are forced to pay extremely high prices for their tickets.
The prices for one way tickets from Ahmedabad to US and Canada have increased by at least 30 percent. The tickets which previously cost around ₹70,000 is now going for as high as ₹1,70,000. This makes a big impact on the total expense incurred by students.
December and January are the months in which NRI movement is the highest. This is also a big contributing factor towards increased ticket prices. Even though now there are direct flights from Ahmedabad to the US, the price difference between the connecting flight Through Abu Dhabi and the direct one is not significant.
Another factor responsible for the increased prices is the holiday season. Christmas and New Year is the time when the Americans travel the most hence contributing to the increased ticket prices.
