International education has gained exceptional popularity amongst Indian students in the past few years. While traditional destinations such as the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand remain popular, there is also an increasing inclination towards Ireland as a study-abroad destination.

Known as the Emerald Isle, Ireland has one of the best education systems in the world. Students studying here are exposed to some of the best universities and their vibrant culture, post-study opportunities, and more. Irish educational institutes offer career opportunities worldwide, making them more attractive for international students.

Beyond academics, Ireland also offers abundant opportunities for personal growth through cultural experiences, community engagement, and extracurricular pursuits. As a result, many international education aspirants, especially those from India, find it appealing to study in Ireland.

According to the Higher Education Authority data, out of the 72,000 students who graduated in Ireland in 2021, slightly more than 10,000 were international students. Moreover, as per Ministry of External Affairs data, approximately 5,000 Indian students were studying in Ireland in 2022, and this number is projected to grow tenfold in 10 years.

Here are the top five reasons why Ireland is one of the preferred destinations for studying shared by Piyush Kumar, Regional Director- South Asia and Mauritius, IDP Education.

    1. WORLD CLASS EDUCATION

Ireland offers an excellent standard of education with seven top-level universities. Not only this, but there is also an increased focus on research and global collaboration. Moreover, the Irish Government closely checks the quality of education via the National Framework of Qualifications (NFF), ensuring that students get world-class learning opportunities, irrespective of the college.

    2. CAREERS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Irish education offers students good career opportunities across the world. Irish Universities offer a diverse range of programmes to suit every career aspiration. Ireland is home to over 1,000 multinational companies, including information and communication technology, pharmaceutical companies, financial services, medical devices, and gaming companies.

    3. FUND ONE’S STUDY

Irish universities allow students to work part-time for 20 hours per week during the academic session. During summer and winter breaks, this increases to 40 hours per week. The financial independence allows students to not only support their education but also provides them with an option to stay back and seek employment under the Irish Third Level Graduate Scheme (for non-EU third-level graduates) to take the courses’ completion.

    4. DRIVING INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

With a thriving ecosystem that supports startups and research initiatives, Ireland has gained the reputation of being the hub of innovation and entrepreneurship. Universities and colleges in Ireland form the top 1 percent of research institutes worldwide. They have dedicated centres and initiatives to help students turn their ideas into reality, making a meaningful contribution to society. Irish curriculums are always focused on innovative thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.

    5. SAFE AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT

Ireland has consistently ranked amongst the world’s Top 20 countries for quality of life, peace, and human development. In 2023, it ranked 3rd on the Global Peace Index. The World Happiness Report 2024 has ranked Ireland as the 17th happiest country globally. With a low crime rate and a welcoming young population, students are likely to feel safe and supported throughout their time in the country, allowing them to focus on studying and enjoying their university experiences to the fullest.

Ireland offers a well-rounded life for international students, with its unique blend of academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and personal growth opportunities. It ensures they enjoy a rewarding educational experience for a lifetime. With its welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community, Ireland will stand out as one of the most preferred destinations for higher education.
