Study abroad programs offered through the University of Tennessee not only allow students to learn more about the subjects they have chosen to study but also give them the opportunity to expand their minds by exposing them to cultures they may have never encountered before.

This summer, UT is offering over 100 different study abroad programs for students in various programs. Here is a list of eight fascinating places across the globe where you’ll be able to find UT students.

    London, England

Across the Atlantic Ocean, the UT engineering department will be traveling to London, England to discover more about the technological world. Here, students will learn about the origins of the Industrial Revolution, the second Industrial Revolution of electrical machines and the birth of the computer age.

Students will be able to explore this historic city and be granted the opportunity to visit sites associated with the Industrial Revolution and the development of modern engineering.

    Paris, France

UT students studying art history will travel to Paris, France, to study some of the most iconic art that has inspired and influenced Western art since the 14th century. Through this program, students will learn about how the French Revolution affected famous artists and how techniques like impressionism were developed as a result of changing times and emotions.

Students will be able to see incomparable art and tour some of the world’s greatest museums. At the same time, they will also be able to immerse themselves in France’s lively modern culture and delve deep into its medieval heart.

    Shanghai, China

Traveling over 7,500 miles away, UT students interested in business and culture studies will be traveling to China’s most populated city, Shanghai this summer. This six-week program offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a global hub of culture, commerce and finance.

Students will study a wide variety of subjects including business, communication, international relations, community health and more. They will also have the opportunity to explore the Longtang alleys, world-class museums and try Shanghai’s world-famous cuisine.

    Lüneburg, Germany

In a place that once was Germany’s most prosperous town during the Middle Ages, UT students interested in environmentalism and sustainability will be able to transport themselves back in time as they study the incredibly preserved agriculture of Lüneburg, Germany.

Here, students will be enamored by festivals and a vibrant, young culture in a small thousand-year-old town. Their classes will be located on the main campus of Leuphana University Lüneburg and will have access to all university amenities.

    Ghana, Africa

UT students interested in Ghanaian studies will embark on a four-week journey to Ghana this summer. This course will allow students to learn about Ghana’s rich history and invite them to participate in hands-on activities and excursions that will enhance their cultural understanding.

Students will not only learn about Ghana’s culture but also witness and study their democratic processes and politics. Students will also have the opportunity to learn more about the impact of enslaved Africans and practice speaking Twi — a dialect of the Akan language.

    Prague, Czech Republic

Students studying psychology will be spending time in the ancient city of Prague this summer in the Czech Republic. In this program, psych students will be able to learn the multidisciplinary perspectives of neuroscience, social psychology and the psychology of transition and transformation.

These students will also look deeper into psychoanalysis and Sigmund Freud, who was born in the southeastern part of the modern-day Czech Republic. Students will also be able to explore the vast city and participate in experimental opportunities.

    Galway, Ireland

UT students interested in ecology will travel to Galway, Ireland, for three weeks in June. This program will highlight the western landscape of Ireland and feature ecological seminars and fieldwork.

Students will stay at the University of Galway, which was founded in 1849, and attend classes alongside Irish and other international students. They will also be able to take many excursions to the city of Dublin and travel to the Aran Islands, and the Cliffs of Moher and County Clare.

    Florence, Italy

Political science students will spend five weeks in Florence, Italy, this summer, reliving the Renaissance. They will take courses on public policy, comparative politics, comparative court systems, and political theory.

Students will also be able to immerse themselves in Italian culture and utilize their weekends by exploring and touring Tuscany, Venice, Rome and Cinque Terra.
