We recently had the opportunity to assist a Canadian attorney in bringing their legal expertise to the U.S. market by establishing a law firm under the E-2 visa program. Here’s how we helped make this expansion a success.

Aiming for Growth in the U.S.

Our client, the owner of a thriving law firm in Canada, sought to expand their practice into the U.S. to serve a broader client base. After forming a new U.S. entity, the client made a substantial investment to lay the foundation for the firm’s operations. These startup costs included:

    • Insurance premiums
    • Travel expenses for business setup
    • Marketing and advertising to build visibility
    • Professional services fees
    • Professional membership costs
    • Miscellaneous business expenditures

With their investments in place, the client partnered with us to navigate the E-2 visa application process.

    Crafting a Strong Application

We worked closely with the client to prepare a comprehensive application, focusing on their business plan and long-term goals. The application demonstrated the client’s commitment to growing the firm, achieving financial success, and hiring U.S. workers. Once the materials were ready, the application was submitted to the U.S. consulate in Toronto.

    A Successful Outcome

The client attended their in-person visa interview and was issued a five-year E-2 visa, allowing them to actively manage and grow their law firm in the U.S. Additionally, their company was registered as an E visa business under the Canada E visa program. This registration provides the client with the ability to sponsor additional Canadian citizens for E-2 visas, which can be instrumental in bringing on new hires or transitioning key personnel from Canada to the U.S.

    Looking Ahead

This success not only allows the client to expand their practice but also supports broader opportunities for professional growth and contributions to the U.S. legal market. By establishing a presence in the U.S., the client can now serve a wider audience while creating opportunities for other legal professionals.

If you’re considering expanding your business to the U.S. and are curious about the E-2 visa process, we’re here to help. Reach out to us to explore how we can assist with your immigration and business needs.
