The annual survey of The Japan Association of Overseas Studies (JAOS) has just been released. This year’s survey was conducted in April 2024 and it again provides a baseline indicator of outbound mobility from Japan based on responses from a sample of 40 JAOS member-agencies.The survey finds that study abroad numbers recovered to 83% of pre-pandemic volumes in 2023, driven by a 218% year-over-year increase from 2022. If the United States is going to achieve its goal of doubling outbound student numbers by 2020, then strategies need to be put in place to increase diversity in study abroad student populations, the Diversity Abroad Network has said. The organisation has recently launched the first version of its Access, Inclusion and Diversity International Education Roadmap that aims to serve as guidelines for diversity and inclusion in the US study abroad field.
