When it comes to moving overseas it appears that the grass is not always greener on the other side – or perhaps not as green as we would like to assume.

While South Africa may have several challenges to complain about, however many would be shocked to know that we are not the only ones experiencing the things we do.

This is what one social media user had to realise when he exchanged the multicultural diversity of our beautiful rainbow nation to go and pursue his tertiary academic studies abroad in England.

While European countries are usually viewed as being the benchmark for living a lavish life the reality is that people there too live ordinary lives and need to fulfil certain household duties.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account a user @itmedew turned to his group of followers to complain about having to do kitchen duties while living abroad.

In the post, he shared a picture of himself cleaning a frying pan along with the caption to highlight his lack of enthusiasm writing:

“Go study abroad, it will be fun they said.”

While this may have been a culture shock for the young student, none of his social media followers showed compassion. Instead, many felt that this was a perfect reality check.

Fun doesn’t mean you won’t have to clean the dishes ever

Wow doing dishes? 😥 That must be sooo tough for you.

He later shared a follow-up post asking: “Why is this tweet turning into a Bartan discourse? I just want to go to silly little parties and get drunk bro. Not stay at home on a Saturday night.”
