In an era when education delivery is evolving globally, international dual degree certifications are becoming popular among students worldwide. As education transcends traditional boundaries, it is imperative to explore if an international dual degree is feasible for everyone or if it is merely an idealistic aspiration.

    Fostering critical thinking skills

The attraction of dual degrees lies in their multifaceted benefits. First and foremost, they offer students a unique opportunity to immerse in two distinct academic cultures, expanding their intellectual horizons and fostering critical thinking skills. Furthermore, dual degrees enhance career prospects, providing graduates with specialised knowledge and skills relevant to international markets. This cross-cultural fluency is increasingly valued by employers navigating complex global business environments.

    Economic feasibility

The pursuit of an international dual degree poses challenges, particularly in terms of affordability. The paradox emerges as students recognise the necessity of international education for professional growth but grapple with prohibitive costs, creating a conundrum. It is important to factor in whether an international dual degree certification is truly achievable for an average student or if it is an elusive dream.

Imagine the scenario of earning not one but two prestigious degrees, each from a respected university in a different country. International dual degree certification programmes have emerged as transformative forces, providing students with unparalleled opportunities to broaden their academic horizons, understand global challenges, and build a network that spans continents.

The benefits extend beyond virtual collaboration in the digital age. In-person connections with peers from diverse backgrounds create invaluable experiences, building cultural competency, adaptability, and leadership skills–qualities that are highly sought after in today’s job market.

    Increased access to new programmes

To address the challenge of specialisation, students can embark on their academic journey with a general course and choose their specialisation later in a foreign university. This innovative approach not only provides flexibility but also offers cost advantages compared to a full foreign education. Parents, often torn by emotional concerns, find solace in this approach. Their children gain confidence while studying in an Indian university first, maintaining close contact and ensuring a smooth transition to international institutions later.

In alignment with the NEP-2020, EdTech organisations facilitate pathways that unite prestigious local and international academic institutions. These pathways include transferring credits (2+2, 3+1, 1+1), pursuing dual degrees, or seeking a unified degree with dual accreditation. The integrated degree programme allows students to acquire both bachelor’s and master’s degrees within five years, drawing insights from both local and global perspectives.

As new avenues open, ambitious individuals seeking global impact find a unique path through dual degrees. Governments and universities in the US, UK, Italy, France, and Belgium are recognising this potential, opening doors to exciting new programmes.

Achieving success in international dual degree programmes requires excellence during the initial (one or two years depending on the course duration one chooses) of enrolment in Indian institutes. Meeting academic requirements and excelling in X, XII, and in graduation is imperative for admission into professional courses.

For foreign universities, eligibility hinges on academic transcripts, standardised test scores (SAT or GRE/GMAT), English proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL), and a holistic evaluation considering letters of recommendation, personal statements, and extracurricular achievements.

Essentially, these dual degree programmes are not just educational options but catalysts for individual and professional growth. As the world shrinks and opportunities expand, international dual degrees will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of globally competent leaders.
