Ireland’s booming economy and successful visa turnover are attracting international students. Could you please elaborate on this?

Ireland’s booming economy, favourable visa success rate, excellent educational opportunities, English language education, and rich cultural experience together make it an appealing destination for international students. Ireland continues to be the fastest-growing economy in Europe and has successfully attracted over a thousand multinational companies, making it a vibrant job market. This economic growth with increased opportunities has made Ireland an attractive destination for international students.

Ireland is renowned for its high-quality education system, with many universities consistently ranking among the top 5% in the world. The emphasis on research and innovation, coupled with strong industry-academia collaborations, further enhances the educational experience for students. The country also offers a streamlined and meticulous visa process for Indian students. Over 95% of student applicants are successful and visas are issued quickly. This combination of academic excellence, career prospects, and a welcoming environment makes Ireland an increasingly popular choice for study-abroad aspirants seeking quality education and diverse cultural exposure.

Do you think Brexit has a role to play in making Ireland a suitable study destination?

Ireland has a long-standing reputation for its academic excellence and is known for the warmth of its people. Post Brexit, Ireland is the only predominantly English-speaking country in the European Union (EU). It also accelerated the setting up of the headquarters and manufacturing units of many multinationals. So, while Ireland has already been a preferred choice for international students, the chain of events following Brexit certainly added to the country’s popularity as a study destination.

What are the post-study work visa options that allow students to stay and work in the country after graduation?

The Government of Ireland offers post-study work prospects to international students to stay and work in the country after completing their studies to gain practical work experience and explore career prospects. The Third Level Graduate Scheme allows graduates of the non-European Economic Area (EEA) residing in Ireland to remain in Ireland for up to 24 months after graduation to seek employment. During this period, graduates have unrestricted access to the Irish labour market and can work in any occupation without the need for an employment permit. The Third Level Graduate Scheme applies to bachelor’s, master’s degree and PhD graduates.

These post-study work visa options in Ireland are designed to encourage international students to contribute to the country’s workforce and economy after completing their education. They provide valuable opportunities for graduates to gain practical experience, develop their careers, and potentially explore long-term immigration options in Ireland.

More than 6000 Indian students choose Ireland for education, do you plan to increase this number? What are the initiatives introduced to boost this?

We are seeing a steady increase in students coming to Ireland from India, as awareness about Ireland and the opportunities it offers grows. This has rapidly risen from 3000+ in 2018 to double the number now. We anticipate an organic increase in numbers in the coming years as our higher education institutions get further recognition in India and form meaningful partnerships with schools and universities here.

What are the sectors in Ireland that Indian students can consider while studying and applying for a job?

Indian students studying in Ireland have a range of sectors to consider when applying for jobs. The country offers opportunities in IT and software development, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, financial services, business and management, engineering, marketing and design, medicine and healthcare, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability, as well as tourism and hospitality. Dublin’s thriving technology sector, presence of major pharmaceutical companies, strong financial services industry, and diverse economy contribute to job prospects for graduates.
