Dr. Ici Vanwesenbeeck, with author Ragnar Jónasson (right) and Iceland Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir (left).

Department of English Professor Ici Vanwesenbeeck recently interviewed Katrín Jakobsdóttir, the prime minister of Iceland, and writer Ragnar Jónasson at Scandinavia House in New York City.

The discussion centered around their new crime fiction book “Reykjavik” which was released recently in the U.S.

Dr. Vanwesenbeeck teaches about the novel in her ENGL 399 Icelandic Noir course, and also teaches a study abroad course in Iceland.

“Reykjavik” is a classic thriller about Lara, a teenager who goes missing on the island of Videy, off the coast of Reykjavik, in 1956. The case remains open until 1986 when Sunna, a young woman completing her comparative literature degree as a graduate student, makes a breakthrough in the case.
